New guidance – For business – Beer

Trading Standards have published new guidance that includes procedures to establish the net volume of prepackaged beer products.

Trading Standards recognised that the number of small businesses who are producing and packaging beer for retail sale is increasing. With this in mind, we sought to develop a cost effective way for any business (small, medium or large) to accurately measure the volume of beer that they put in a packaged product, i.e. keg, can or bottle.

After extensive in-house testing, collaboration with our scientific metrology colleagues at the Measurement Standards Laboratory (MSL) and consultation with businesses within the beer industry, we have produced guidance that contains the test procedures that are used by our inspectors and that can be adopted by a packer or importer of packaged beer products.
